1 skein of Six colorways: Midnight Meadows, Irish Jig, Mint Julep, Juniper Over Sage, Secretly Seeking, Sweet. When it's gone, it's gone.
Six one-of-one skeins of Sundara Mahlstadt's Sock base — the round, springy, superwash-merino sock yarn she has been hand-dyeing out of her Madison, Wisconsin studio for nearly two decades. Each colourway here is a single skein with the original Sundara hand-tag intact; once a variant sells, the next time Sundara releases that name the dye pool will be different. That's the nature of small-batch hand-painted work, and it's the reason these are priced under current Sundara retail.
This listing is for 1 skein of Sundara Yarn Sock in your choice of 6 colorways: Midnight Meadows, Irish Jig, Mint Julep, Juniper Over Sage, Secretly Seeking, or Sweet. Each colourway is one skein only — when a variant sells out it's gone.
Colourways
- Midnight Meadows — deep forest green, nearly black in low light, with a soft variegation that opens up under a lamp. 350 yd / 100 g.
- Irish Jig — emerald-teal base shot through with flickers of bright chartreuse and a near-black depth. Reads green from a distance, dances close up. 350 yd / 100 g.
- Mint Julep — a quiet teal-mint tonal — cooler than spring green, softer than seafoam. 350 yd / 100 g.
- Juniper Over Sage — pale sage with juniper-green low-tones; a botanical neutral that pairs with everything. 370 yd / 100 g.
- Secretly Seeking — slate-blue and dove-grey tonal with the occasional indigo flicker. Cool, contemplative, very Sundara. 370 yd / 100 g.
- Sweet — a deep wine / burgundy tonal that lights up to bramble-red where the dye pooled. 370 yd / 100 g.
About the yarn:
Sundara's Sock base is a smooth, round 100% superwash merino in fingering / sock weight — 350–370 yards in a 100 g skein, finished with the slight worsted-spun bounce that takes saturated hand-paint dyework without going flat in the knit fabric. Yardage runs 350 yd on the early-run colourways (Midnight Meadows, Irish Jig, Mint Julep) and 370 yd on the later-run colourways (Juniper Over Sage, Secretly Seeking, Sweet); the difference is whatever Sundara's mill ran that season, the base itself is the same yarn. There is no nylon — this is a soft sock yarn that blooms when wet-blocked, so it's equally happy in shawls, light cowls, fingerless mitts, or a yoke detail on a lighter sweater. Gauge sits at 7–9 sts/inch on a US 0–2.5 (2.0–2.75 mm). Hand wash cold, or machine wool cycle delicate; lay flat to dry.

About Sundara Yarn:
Sundara Mahlstadt has been hand-dyeing yarn out of Madison, Wisconsin for nearly two decades. The studio is known for moody, layered colourways — names like In the Still of the Night, Petrichor, Black Roses, Secretly Seeking — and a small set of in-house bases milled to Sundara's own specifications. The Daily Dreams club, Sundara's longest-running subscription, is still releasing in 2026; sundarayarn.com is live, and Sundara still drops small-batch yarn one colour at a time, typically gone within hours of going up.
Sundara works in small batches: each colourway is hand-mixed and dyed in person, and the colour you receive is the colour that came off Sundara's hands that day. There is no factory between the dyer and the skein, and no two dye days are identical — slight tonal shifts between releases are part of the signature. The hand-written specs on a small white card, the colourway lettered on a second card — that's the classic Sundara presentation that has shipped on her bases for years.
The Sock base is one of the original Sundara bases — a workhorse superwash 3-ply merino chosen specifically because it takes her saturated layered dyework without the colour going muddy in the knit fabric. These six skeins came to us from a Sundara collector clearing out shelves; all are in original twist, unwound, with the hand-written band still on. None of the colourways below are listed on Sundara's site right now; this is the only place you'll find this exact set today.
