About the yarn:

Aran Silky Merino is a single-ply blend of half mulberry silk and half merino wool, milled to Sundara's own specification. The silk lays a soft halo on the surface and a low-key shine that reads as moonlight rather than glitter; the merino gives the loft and warmth that carry an aran-weight stitch without going stiff. The single-ply construction is what makes the colour pool the way it does — there is no second strand to break up the layered blues, so the colourway reads as one continuous wash. Hand-feel is soft, drapey, and slightly dense; it blocks open beautifully on a US 7. 200 yards is exactly enough for a deep-colour hat or cowl, the contrast half of a two-colour scarf, or the rich half of a yoke colourwork.

About Sundara Yarn:

Sundara Mahlstadt has been hand-dyeing yarn out of Madison, Wisconsin for nearly two decades. The studio is known for moody, layered colourways — names like *In the Still of the Night*, *Petrichor*, *Black Roses* — and a small set of in-house bases milled to Sundara's own specifications. The Daily Dreams club, Sundara's longest-running subscription, is still releasing in 2026.

Sundara works in small batches: each colourway is hand-mixed and dyed in person, and the colour you receive is the colour that came off Sundara's hands that day. There is no factory between the dyer and the skein, and no two dye days are identical — slight tonal shifts between releases are part of the signature.

Aran Silky Merino is part of the small custom-base set: a 50/50 single-ply blend Sundara commissioned for the studio specifically to carry her darker, layered colourways. Silk for shine and drape, merino for the loft and warmth that hold an aran-weight stitch.
