About the yarn:

Silk Lace is Sundara's pure-silk lace base — 100% mulberry-style silk, finely 2-plied tight enough to keep the gloss on the surface rather than letting it fluff. 1000 yards in a single 100 g skein puts the strand somewhere between a heavy cobweb and a fine lace, with room for nearly any traditional lace shawl pattern (a full Shetland-shape stole, an Estonian triangle, a generous half-pi), or held double with a fingering merino for a fingering-weight project with silk shimmer running through the core. Cool against the hand, with the small weight that gives a finished shawl its drape; blocks open beautifully on a US 2–4 needle. *Sunshine* reads sun-on-wheat rather than neon — warm-yellow at the highs, antique-gold in the dye-pools, with no second contrast colour breaking the rhythm.

Sundara Mahlstadt has been hand-dyeing yarn out of Madison, Wisconsin for nearly two decades. The studio is known for moody, layered colourways — names like *In the Still of the Night*, *Petrichor*, *Black Roses* — and a small set of in-house bases milled to Sundara's own specifications. The Daily Dreams club, Sundara's longest-running subscription, is still releasing in 2026.

Sundara works in small batches: each colourway is hand-mixed and dyed in person, and the colour you receive is the colour that came off Sundara's hands that day. There is no factory between the dyer and the skein, and no two dye days are identical — slight tonal shifts between releases are part of the signature. The tag style on this skein — hand-written specs on a small white card, colourway hand-lettered on a second card — is the classic Sundara presentation that has shipped on her bases for years.
