One of Island Yarn Company’s legendary Mad Balls — a fat 190-gram fingering skein wound from whatever luxury ends the shop had on hand when the ball was rolled. Number #370 on the handwritten band: a quiet heathered blend of merino, cashmere, silk, cotton, and linen that reads as a soft oatmeal — cream-warm under daylight, with the faint slubby texture only a true mixed-fibre yarn gives you.

This listing is for the one Mad Ball pictured — ~190 g, ~500 yards by Island Yarn Co.’s usual Mad Ball math, single skein, in pristine destash condition. A real one-of-one: there is no other #370 in the world, and there isn’t going to be another.

About the yarn

  • Skeins available: 1 (one-of-one Mad Ball)

About Island Yarn Company. Island Yarn is a tiny, much-loved shop on Cape Cod whose owners gather the loose ends and leftover luxury samples from every spinner and dyer they carried, then roll them into numbered Mad Balls: each one a deliberate surprise, weighed and labelled by hand. Knitters drove from three states away to buy them, and shawl knitters still chase them on destash. This is one of those skeins, intact, original band still tied on.
