$21.00per 3.5 oz skein

Two sisters in the same rust family from Blue Heron Yarns Sock Plus — Copper, the variegated colourway that runs from oxidised penny through dark plum and back into oak; and Carnelian, the solid, saturated rust-red that pairs to it like a polished stone next to a tumbled one. They knit beautifully alone, and even better next to each other in colour-block accessories.

Pick your colourway above. This is a single product with two variants; each variant is one skein — one Copper, one Carnelian. Each skein is 4 oz / 420 yards per the printed Blue Heron band. When that variant sells, it’s gone — these came direct from the dyer at studio close.

About the yarn

  • Maker: Blue Heron Yarns (Easton, Maryland)
  • Line: Sock Plus (the studio’s workhorse sock base)
  • Fibre: 80% superwash merino, 20% nylon — hand-painted
  • Weight class: fingering / sock (~120 yd/oz)
  • Per skein: 4 oz / 420 yd
  • Recommended needles: US 1–4 / 2.25–3.5 mm (gauge 28 sts / 4 in)
  • One-skein use: an adult pair of socks; doubles up beautifully for shawls on a US 5–6
  • Care: hand-wash with a neutral soap (per band); machine-gentle / lay flat to dry tolerated
  • Condition: new with band, direct from the dyer in the studio wind-down
  • Colourways: Copper — variegated penny, plum, oak; Carnelian — solid saturated rust
  • Skeins available: 1 of each variant

About Blue Heron Yarns. Blue Heron Yarns was founded on Maryland’s Eastern Shore in 1995 by Demian Savits and his mother Barbara Stone — three decades of small-batch, hand-painted yarn for knitters, crocheters, and weavers. The studio worked out of Easton, Maryland, and built a quiet cult following on the painterly, multi-tonal colourways that pool and blend like watercolour rather than fight you on the needle. Blue Heron has now closed. These skeins came direct from the dyer as the studio wound down — not destash, not a secondary market — the last of their Sock Plus base, full stop.
