1 skein of Hand-dyed purple / teal / lavender / rose (unnamed) — Wensleydale locks. When it's gone, it's gone.
A one-of-one handspun art yarn from The Fibre Tree — Karen's small fibre studio in Suffolk, UK, where she keeps her own small flock of Wensleydale sheep and spins every skein as a single, never-repeated batch. This skein is built around a hand-dyed gradient that drifts through deep purple, teal, pale lavender, and a flash of rose — drafted long against the breed's signature curly locks, so the surface reads as ringlets of colour rather than a smooth ply. Both the printed brand tag and Karen's handwritten spec tag are still attached.
Fibre (off the spinner's tag). Wensleydale + Blue Faced Leicester. Wensleydale brings the long curly locks that ride the surface; Blue Faced Leicester (the "merino of British wool") brings the soft, lustrous hand and the drape. Both are British long-wools — together they make an art yarn with texture and wearability.
Specs.
- Yardage: 62 yards per skein (per spinner's tag)
- Skein weight: 225 g / ~7.9 oz
- Weight class: super bulky / art yarn with locks
- Construction: handspun, drafted long against Wensleydale locks; thick-and-thin throughout
- Colourway: hand-dyed purple / teal / pale lavender / rose (unnamed on tag)
- Skeins available: 1 — one-of-one
- Care: hand-wash cool with no-rinse wool wash, lay flat to dry. The locks like to be gently re-fluffed once dry.
Lovely for: a single-skein cowl on US 13–15 needles where the locks read as texture, the contrast yoke of a chunky pullover, a freeform weaving project where 62 super-bulky yards fill a meaningful panel, or a wall-hanging where the curls become surface features.
About the spinner. Karen has been hand-dyeing and hand-spinning out of her Suffolk studio for around a decade — most of her locks-on-singles work uses fleece off her own small flock. Listed on Etsy and on Facebook; each skein is a one-off, so once a particular colourway is sold, that exact spin isn't coming back.
Condition. Excellent. Skein is clean, hand-tied, and intact, with both the printed Fibre Tree tag and Karen's handwritten spec tag still attached. Stored in the cabinet between intake and listing.
Curator's Cabinet — handspun, breed-specific British long-wool, named indie maker with a working flock, one of one.
