A handspun art-yarn skein on a hand-written paper tag that simply reads "CVM + bamb / 88 yds" in pencil — the spinner's own shorthand for California Variegated Mutant wool plied with bamboo. The hank is a heathered slate-and-taupe base lit by copper, gold, soft pink, slate-blue, and teal threads, where the bamboo holds the brighter colour against the matte warmth of the heritage-breed wool.

About the fibre. CVM (California Variegated Mutant) is a rare heritage line bred down from Romeldale stock — a fine, naturally-multicoloured fleece prized by handspinners for its soft hand and quiet heather. There are only a few thousand registered CVM sheep worldwide, and most of the clip never leaves the small flocks that raise them. Bamboo gives this skein its drape and the cool sheen that catches in the copper and teal — a fibre pairing you almost never see at the mill scale.
